Contramar @ Entremar

One of my favorite restaurants in Mexico City was Entremar. Entremar is a sister restaurant to Contramar, which is a seafood restaurant that is known for the giant fish cooked in a Contramar style. What is “Contramar” style? As you can see in the picture above, “Contramar” style means a whole fish grilled in two different sauces—one with red chili and the other with green chimichurri sauce.

When we got to Entremar, we were not that hungry. We initially wanted to get something small for snacks, so ordered aguachile and sope first. It was my first time trying aguachile and sope, and I was curious to try. Aguachile means “chile water” in Spanish, and it is a Mexican dish made of seafood such as shrimp or octopus, submerged in liquid usually with lime juice, cilantro, cucumber, onion, salt, and chili peppers. Sope, also known as picadita and pellizcadas, is a Mexican dish made of thick fried masa (ground maize soaked in lime) with different types of toppings, refried beans, cheese, lettuce, onions, and salsa. Both aguachile and sope were very tasty and made me quite full.

While I was eating the aguachile and sope, I made a mistake looking around at other tables and saw that every table had a big fish, which looked really good and tempting. Even though I was already full, I had to order it. And I have no regrets ordering the whole fish. The fish did not disappoint me. I’ve never seen or tasted anything like it before. It was interesting to see that the fish was cooked in two different types of sauces. The fish was beautiful to look at and was grilled perfectly. It was extremely tender and juicy. The sauces were not too overpowering so you could still taste the original flavor of the fish. Are you curious which flavor Fancy Kimchi liked better? I personally liked red chili sauce better than the green sauce chimichurri sauce because the red chili sauce had a stronger tangy flavor.

I really liked the fish in Contramar style and finished the whole fish quite quickly. Next time I definitely would like to try Contramar fish at the original restaurant, Contramar. Now I have a reason to come back to Mexico City!
